ABCT SGM SIG Mentorship Program - 2021
April 12, 2021
Dear Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) SIG members,
The SGM SIG has finalized mentorship pairs for this year’s program! We had a stellar response from 23 interested mentees, including post-baccalaureate individuals and graduate students. Many mentees sought mentorship on research, clinical issues, and being an SGM-identified individual. Research and clinical interests spanned several topics related to SGM populations and cognitive-behavioral therapies, including intersectionality and multiple marginalized identities, community-engaged work, acceptance and commitment-based therapies, and dissemination and implementation. We are so grateful for the 21 mentors who are volunteering their time and wisdom to offer mentorship to our student members. Mentors include post-doctoral fellows and professionals working in universities, academic medical centers, hospitals, and private practice. Though not always able to make perfect matches, we paired mentors and mentees based on research and clinical interests, and when possible and requested, shared demographic identities.
From here, mentorship pairs have autonomy to structure their mentorship relationship and communication as they see fit. We anticipate productive conversations related to applying for graduate school, internship, and post-doc, navigating academic and professional spaces, and much more. Some mentees and mentors may begin research collaborations and perhaps some teams will write an original article for the SIG website! Once again, thanks to the mentors and mentees for participating in the SGM SIG Mentorship program.
